Project Read is a hands-on literacy support group here in the Miami Valley.
Through volunteers Project Read tutors children to bring reading comprehension up to grade level, and adults so they can understand the materials used for a high school equivalency degree.
Project Read also manages a toll-free help for referrals to over 100 other literacy programs in the Miami Valley if a direct tutor is not available. These referrals often help people learning English as a second language or working towards a GED.
To help all families and individuals with their literacy studies, Project Read has secured over 150,000 book donations in the last five years which are passed on to people who need them.
Over 35,000 people have received help from Project Read tutors and referrals in the past 15 years. With a staff of three, this is a very impressive organization deserving of your support.
The OCHO Project
Every “school community” has children who do not have books of their own. The OCHO Project is a character based service-learning program that is dedicated to exposing children to the joys of reading while teaching them that, through reading, they can also help others less fortunate than themselves.
Ocho books are provided at no charge to the recipients of OCHO grant program. For more details contact Ocho founder Marilyn Perlyn.
